Is your knife ready for action? Lansky Sharpening Kit says not yet.

MD-14675_20151225190338_538db227dcee9eaaThis is a great review on the Lansky Professional Sharpening System.  The one system you need!

“Why isn’t this knife getting sharp?” I said out loud to myself in this Military tent!  I deploy on a mission in two hours and can not get this knife sharp.  What am I doing wrong?  Frustration sets in as I continue to drag this knife across the stone.  Just then a buddy walks into the tent and can see the frustration on my face (ya it is that bad) and reaches lansky-knife-sharpenerunder his bunk.  Pulls out this small plastic box and walks over to me and hands it to me.  I look up at him and said, “what’s this?”  He opens it up and says, “This will make sure you have the right angle to make you knife sharp!”  With a puzzled look on my face, I shrugged my shoulders and  looked at him.  My buddy sits down and opens the box up.  Pulling out each individual piece out of the boxes and sets them down.  He then starts to put the pieces together.

After just a couple of minutes watching him put it together. He then reaches for my kife-sharpen-mt-8knife and places it in the device metal clamps.  Grabs the sharping stone and with the long rod connected to the stone, places the long rod into the hole.  With a smooth stroking motion, he runs it across the blade of the knife.  A few minutes of him stroking the blade, he takes the knife out of the clamps and hands it back to me and says, “there you can now cut a piece of hair with it.”  “Really? I have been spending hours on the knife and it wouldn’t get that sharp.”  He looks at me and says, “you are doing it wrong.  Most people believe if you sharpen a knife across the stone it will sharpen.  But if you do not have the right angle to sharpen it, it will round the blade.”  So that is what I have been doing wrong, rounding the blade.

Thanks Lansky!  For showing me there really is more to sharpening a knife then running the blade across the stone.
